Good Monday Afternoon. I pray everyone had a great weekend and ready to start a new week. I apologize for being a little late this morning, but I had a few things to take care of before setting down at the computer. This is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it. Yes and Amen.
From time to time I will share a bit of my Sunday School lesson. When it is on my heart to share the message in the lesson. So, the lesson was about being a show off. I am quite sure everyone knows what being a show off is. There are people that have to have all of the attention. Then there are those that no matter what they are doing, they have to be seen and heard. We also have those that are doing the right things for the wrong reasons. People who only do things for recognition. If it is nothing in it for them or no one will know what they did, then they are not interested.
Believe it or not, there are even show offs in the church. Yep, I said it and it is true. You have those people when asked to pray they pray very long prayers and very loud. To be seen and to be heard. One, God is not deaf, so you don’t have to pray to the top of your lungs, and the prayers don’t have to be as long as a chapter in the Bible. Just pray what God puts on your heart to pray and not about everything under the sun. There is a time and a place for long drawn out prayers, usually in your private prayer time. Matthew 6:5-8 reads, ” (5) And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. (6) But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (7) And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. (8) Do not be like them, for your Father know what you need before you ask of him.”
Then there are the givers that only give to be recognized by others. If you are going to do something for someone, just do it with a good heart. Don’t be concerned about who knows what you did. That’s doing the right thing for the wrong reason. Because when you do something or give something to someone and you are looking for recognition for what you did. You have already received your reward. So, wait and let God reward you for the good things that you do and not look to others for a pat on the back. Matthew 6:1-4 reads ” (1) Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in Heaven. (2) So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. (3) But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, (4)so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
This was a very good lesson Sunday and it was put on my heart to share it with all of you today. So, I pray my blog today was a blessing to you, because the lesson was a blessing to me. God Bless 🙂
