Lord, Help Me Control My Mouth

Good Wednesday Morning Blog Family. This is another beautiful day that the Lord has made and have allowed us to be apart of it. So, as His children, let us go out and make Him proud of us today and all of our actions and our words. Thank You Jesus.

We all know what the Bible says about our mouth and that little organ that is in it, the tongue. I have and I am sure you have too, witnessed people allowing their mouth’s getting them into a lot of trouble. Then there are those that only speak negativism, never anything positive to say about anything or anybody. Sometimes, we talk too much when sometimes we should be listening. As I have heard my daughter tell my grandson so many times, that’s why God gave you one mouth and two ears. to do more listening than talking.

Even in our marriages, we will allow that tongue and that mouth to hurt the person that we have vowed to love. In our families, we have said very hurtful things to our children and other family members that should have never been said. We need to remember, we can apologize after we have used our mouth as weapons, but the wound will still be there. So, stop and think very hard before you open your mouth and talk to anyone. The Word of God says in Proverbs 15:1, “A soft word turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

I use the NKJV and the NIV Bibles when I read and study. Sometimes I will read a passage in The Message Bible or the New Living Translation. So, I said that to say this, there is a scripture that I love how it reads in the New Living Translation Bible. The scripture is Ephesians 4:29 and it reads, “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” Praise God.

I also added James 3:1-12 to further tell you what the Word of God has to say about the mouth and tongue. We should be very careful how we use both, think before we speak. God Bless 🙂

James 3:1-12 NIV

Taming the Tongue

Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, :1-12can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

Prayer

Father God, we come to You in the Name of Jesus, Your Son and our Lord and Savior. We read in the above scripture what You said about what we allow to come out of our mouths. We ask that You help us to not allow praise and curing to come out of the same mouth. Holy Spirit, help us to speak words that lift up and not tear down, in Jesus Name we pray. Thank You and Amen.
