Good Wednesday Morning Blog Family. Here we are once again, in the middle of a glorious week. Going forward with a thankful heart and with the leading and guiding of our Heavenly Father. He is so good to us, how can you not be thankful. Praise His Holy Name.
I was reading a book by Joyce Myer “Battlefield of the Mind”, in which I have read before. She updated the book and added more things that God had given her on dealing with our thoughts and mind. So, I am reading the updated version of “Battlefield of the Mind” and it is as awesome as the first book. As I was reading the introduction of the book, I read something that I wanted to share with all of you. This word was so good and it was just in the introduction. I will have to say, if you have never read this book, I would strongly recommend it, you will be amazed.
Anyway, what I wanted to share with you was in reference to Proverbs 23:7 which reads, “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Now I am sure we have all read this verse and have even heard it preached in church or taught in Bible Study. Either way, we have all heard it and we should know what it means, it is very self explanatory. This is what Joyce had to say in Battlefield of the Mind, “What does Proverbs 23;7 really mean? The King James Version says, “As he (a man) thinketh in his heart so is he.” Another translation states, “As a man thinks in his heart, so does he become.” The mind is the leader or forerunner of all actions. Romans 8:5 makes it clear: “For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their minds on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and re controlled by the desires of the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the (Holy) Spirit.” Our actions are a direct result of our thoughts. If we have a negative mind, we will have a negative life. If, on the other hand, we renew our mind according to God’s Word, we will, as Romans 12:2 promises, prove out in our experience “the good and acceptable and perfect will of God” for our lives. Second Corinthians 10:4-5 clearly indicates that we must know the Word of God well enough to be able to compare what is in our mind with what is in the mind of God; any thoughts that attempts us to exalt itself above the Word of God we are to cast down and bring into captivity to Jesus.” Wow, was that not some good food for the soul and our mind, amazing.
We all know without Joyce telling us, that our minds are a battlefield. If you are like me, there has been a lot of battle fought there. Some of them I won and some of them I did not win, but no matter what the outcome was, it was still a battle I was fighting in my mind. As I have said time and time again, it is so important in your Christian walk that you stay connected to God, mind, body and soul. Listening to God and being obedient to His Word and all that He instructs us to do, this is very important. Keeping our spiritual ears tuned into God and all that He is saying to us and keeping our minds stayed on Him. Isaiah 26:3 reads’ “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in you.” So, right there, God is telling us if we keep our mind on Him, we will be kept in perfect peace because we trust Him. This is so true, keeping your mind on God will also help to keep negative and evil thoughts away, it really works.
I can give you a good example of this and what I had to do to win these battles in my thoughts and mind. There are things that I have had to deal with, some were in my control and some were not. The battles that were not in my control I had to turn them over to God and leave them there. Every time a negative thought would try and come back to my mind, I would tell that thought that I gave you to God, it’s not mine anymore, talk to God about it. There are times I had to do that more than once or twice a day, but eventually it was not entertained in my mind anymore. I had to learn the hard way, that when you give something to God to handle, He does not need your help. All we do is mess it up and tie His hands when we try to help, so let Him have it completely.
Don’t become the things that are in your thoughts, mind and heart if they are not lined up with the Word of God. Don’t even entertain negative and evil thoughts because you already know they come from the other guy. So, knowing who they come from should be enough for you to dismiss them and give them to your Heavenly Father if you can’t dismiss them on your own. God gave us His Word to be able to know how to deal with anything we come up against, and He gave us the Holy Spirit to help us when we just don’t know what or how to do it. So, there is no excuse for allowing the devil to use your mind as a dumping ground for all of his mess. We have the mind of Christ. As 1 Corinthians 2:16 reads, ” For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.” So, the next time the devil comes to dump his mess in your mind, remind him who your mind belongs to. God Bless π
